For my observational drawing I drew a ram’s skull amongst
a variety of other things including bottles and an anatomical human skull as
well as some fabrics and deer horns. I also drew them in a variety of ways like
using pens and charcoal and a pen and stick it really brought me out of my
comfort zone as we had to be timed on each of the drawings one was for 10
second and another was for 10 minutes, some use this technique for art therapy
but I found it very stressful as I wasn’t able to get the amount of detail I
wanted into each piece.

moodboard - animals
For my mood board I started looking into the exotic animals
more like snakes, parrots and a tarantula that I painted in gouache paint I
also included an eagle as well as a mouse and some doves perched on a tree
which I did in watercolour I also drew in a close up image of my cats eye and I
really like how that turned out. I like most of the mood board except for the tarantula
which I didn’t manage to get the detail I wanted into it. I also created
individual backgrounds for each subject but I don’t really like how that turned
out as it doesn’t really mesh together well. My favourite part of my mood board
is the parrot as it has a lot of detail within it but it did take a long time
to finish. One of my reasons for choosing animals for this project was
because of a video I watched on YouTube of someone drawing a very detailed
snake in time-lapse.
artist research - Julie Rhodes
I decided to study Julie Rhodes for my artist research as
she is a very detailed artist that manages to create some very life like
drawing and it is all in graphite pencil at first it was pretty daunting to
even think of replicating her artwork but so far I think I’m not doing too bad
I haven’t finished it yet so I’m keen on seeing how drawing in the water will
go.

For my sketchbook I started looking at primary and secondary research for my animal project. I also included a mind map of ideas to help me plan out what I was going to do for example what artists I was going to look into as well as where I was going to get my primary research from and what media I might use. I believed it would be difficult to fill up an entire sketchbook from the start with detailed drawings and so far it has been quite difficult to get the drawings correct but I have other ways of presenting my research in a creative way I might include some origami animals or perhaps some animal print which I think would look nice .
